When researching my own family I needed details from Scotland and this was the site where I got most of it. You can do a general search on the site for free, but when you require specific details you will have to subscribe. The cost is minimal, compared with the cost of having to go to Scotland. In most cases you will be able to download images of birth, death, marriage and census records to validate the entries on your tree.
